PPG is seeking a segment manager to join the silicas business. This is a tremendous opportunity for the right person to become part of the business leadership team and be directly accountable for a dynamic, exciting business within PPG. We are seeking a high-energy person with strong technical skills, business acumen and strategic thinking capabilities. The successful candidate will lead and collaborate across functions to ensure alignment and execution on key business priorities. This role will be based at our offices located in Monroeville, PA (Pittsburgh, PA suburb). This position will require 20-30% travel.

Key responsibilities:
• Strategic planning and execution: plan, organize, and implement global segment strategies; fully understand key markets, customers, and market environment
• Develop and own the product line roadmap, including identifying and prioritizing key gaps and opportunities to generate profitable growth and develop the business case for capital linked to product line roadmap
• Grow business profitability: work with sales to develop the sales and profit budget and implement strategies to deliver results for assigned segment. Work with sales staff in the development and implementation of key customer plans
• Build customer relationships with direct calls both with and without sales team members, determining needs and value propositions. Assist sales representatives in identifying and pursuing prospective sales opportunities
• Analyze and recommend pricing strategies with general managers of each business segment
• Collaborate with the marketing team to develop tools and resources to drive new sales
• Work with sales to insure all channels to market are robust and successful; drive distributor sales through an annual goals process
• Develop, prioritize, and oversee the PPM and new product development processes from commercial perspective in partnership with R&D
• Own profit and loss responsibility for new, emerging products and coordination of cross-functional teams through full commercialization

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related subject preferred. Business degree or MBA preferred but not required
• 8+ years of marketing and/or external product sales experience preferably in a business with a strong technical component to the sales development process
• Must be able to effective communicate with others by reading, writing and interpreting technical information; strong Excel and PowerPoint skills are preferred
• Strong business acumen, including familiarity with financial reports and capital requests
• Passion for creating new business and driving new sales initiatives
• Skilled at leading multi-functional teams in a very dynamic business
• Able to make decisions in a timely manner, often without having perfect information
• Commercial experience in tire and/or non-tire rubber end-use applications desired
