Cabot Corporation: project lead, new product development

Billerica, Massachusetts, USA

Position summary:
Our Reinforcement Materials business is looking for an innovative, driven, team player & leader to join its product development efforts at Cabot’s Business and Technology Center located in Billerica, MA. Environmental, energy and economic factors are driving demands on reinforcing materials solutions for tires and automotive rubber goods. In this position you will work with a multi-disciplinary & cross-functional team to drive innovation in new product development of reinforcing solutions for our customers in tire and industrial products business.

Job responsibilities:
- Lead/drive projects and interface with customers in joint development efforts
- Provides structure-property relationship insights for design for particle and composite solutions
- Provides leadership in evaluation of reinforcing particles and compound solutions in tire and non-tire rubber applications. Works closely with cross-functional team of engineers, rubber technologists, analytical scientists, marketing, technical service 
- Contributes to Cabot’s technical knowledge base, advances understanding of the mechanisms by which reinforcing particles impact rubber performance properties

Requirements:
- PhD in Materials Science/ Engineering or Polymer Sci & Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
- 4-6 years of industry experience OR experience in cross-institutional collaboration & project planning.
- Background in polymer based composite materials design, synthesis and characterization, understanding structure property relationships and applying them to solve problems
- Ability to tackle complex problems/projects, highly developed research and analysis methodology and techniques. Ability to work effectively in teams and interface with customers
- Ability to motivate and influence others to action.
- Demonstrated drive to get things done
- Versatile in experimental design techniques
- Background in rubber reinforcement & formulation a plus
- Background in (molecular, meso-scale, finite element) modeling of composites a plus
