SHOW NEWS: Reliable detection of black-on-black contrasts

At this year’s Tire Technology Expo in Hannover, Germany, Erhardt+Leimer will present new inspection and measuring technology.

A camera application called Black-on-Black (EL-BOB) enables detection of web edges with minimum contrast, which for example occur with tire material strips on black conveyor belts, laminated strips, ridges and grooves.

The position values provided by the camera can then be used for measuring the width of the innerliner or sidewall, for the final check after doubling, or for web guiding in the tire building machine. Guiding by a minimum groove or by a GI stripe is possible.

EL-BOB is a standalone application with web-based management: commissioning and the creation of recipes can be done via a graphical user interface on-site or via the internet using remote maintenance. Only a web browser is required for this purpose (communication with the customer’s PLC is of course possible, too). In addition, web-based management offers a monitoring function with 2D images.

The software compensates deviations in the thickness of the material without reducing the accuracy of the measurement. An encoder is used to synchronize the camera with the production machine, making it possible to evaluate the footage at any time.

The software will be presented at the exhibition for the first time, however it has already been used successfully by some major tire manufacturers for some time.

E+L will be exhibiting at booth 9030 at the show. Purchase your ticket now!
