New winter tire from Pirelli

A new tire, which was developed in collaboration with an OEM, is now available from Pirelli. The Winter Sottozero 3 is an ultra high-performance tire developed for premium cars with medium to large engines, designed to enhance the sporting characteristics of these vehicles.

The tire is available as original equipment on models from Lamborghini, Maserati, McLaren, and Mercedes AMG. Pirelli says it has been tested through extreme winter conditions in Italy, Austria, Sweden, Finland and New Zealand. 3D sipes capture more snow and improve the tire’s grip on snowy surfaces. The contact patch has also been extended for improved grip in all winter conditions.

In addition, the tire is made with an innovative compound, which, thanks to optimized polymers that improve the mechanical, thermal and dynamic properties of the rubber, increases overall performance. Road holding in particular is enhanced, Pirelli says, even on wet and icy surfaces, while driveability is also improved.

The profile of the new Winter Sottozero 3 has been designed to provide a longer tire life thanks to a uniform contact patch against the road surface. The shoulder, however, is more rounded to disperse larger quantities of water. Significant grooves in the tread pattern also help to improve water drainage on wet surfaces.
