SHOW LIVE: Highly dispersible silica from W.R. Grace & Co.

With the recent introduction of tire labeling in Europe, demand is growing for silica with improved properties. To serve this trend, Tire Technology Expo exhibitor W. R. Grace & Co. has developed a high dispersible silica (HDS) called PERKASIL GT 3000 GRAN, which has better dispersion and reinforcing properties than Grace’s existing PERKASIL grades, KS 408 GRAN and TF 100 GRAN.

The key to the development of high dispersible silica is a carefully designed precipitation process in combination with improved drying technology, followed by a controlled granulation process to achieve the required pore structure. PERKASIL GT 3000 GRAN combines the advantage of low-dust granules with good processing and excellent dispersion properties, making this HDS grade extremely suitable for applications in high-performance tire-tread formulations.

Its highly porous structure provides a significant improvement in dispersion properties, without having a negative impact on the mixing and processing properties. Furthermore, the pore structure provides optimal accessibility for rubber to have better interaction with the silica, resulting in an improved reinforcement index and good treadwear properties. PERKASIL GT 3000 GRAN also provides lower rolling resistance for better fuel economy, in combination with excellent wet grip properties, helping tires meet the top ‘AA’ requirements laid down in the new tire labeling regulations in Europe.

W. R. Grace & Co. is in attendance at Tire Technology Expo 2013 on stand C105 in Cologne, Germany.
