At Bay Systems we provide advanced measurement systems that help tyre designers optimize their products for noise/vibration/handling/safety and reduced rolling resistance. The recent addition of accurate internal tire liner temperature measurement is shown below.

Temperature measurement of tire liner to better than 0.2 degrees C.

Measuring the temperature profile of the tire liner reveals where heat is being generated. Making such a measurement in both the laboratory and on the road is at one time easy and near impossible. Easy because there are many easy to use wireless linked temperature sensors that can be pressed into service. Near Impossible because the accuracy and resolution of these sensors is at best +/- 2 degrees C and in many cases +/-5 degrees C; making the resulting data next to useless for product development. The Bay Systems Tire Cavity Thermometer (TCT) system has been developed over the last two years to deliver the accuracy and resolution needed.

The 64 channel TCT will show the tire carcass liner temperatures over the full tread width or as shown here, from shoulder to the centre of the tread pattern, some 120mm (Y axis shoulder = 0 centre of the tread = 15). The width of the strip is 30mm (X axis direction of travel (0,1,2,3). The colour scale is in degrees C.
