Solvay expands in Poland

To better serve its customers in the region, Solvay has opened a new factory in Włocławek, Poland, which houses energy-saving production equipment

by Rachel Evans

Operations are now underway at Solvay’s new €75m (US$84m) highly dispersible silica (HDS) factory in Włocławek, Poland, with construction on the facility, which sits on an 8ha plot, taking around two years to complete.

“Our customers are increasingly using our HDS for fuel-saving tires, which are becoming more important in Europe. We needed capacity and to be closer to our customers in Eastern Europe,” says An Nuyttens, president, Solvay.

The plant is situated close to key energy distribution and the new Warsaw-Gdansk highway, and will therefore offer logistical benefits to customers in Eastern Europe and Russia.

It has a capacity of up to 85,000 kilo tons per year and, among others, will produce Solvay’s recently launched Efficium, and Zeosil Premium products.

Nuyttens notes, “We wanted to focus not only on producing our innovative grades of silica, but also on having the newest production equipment and processing technologies, and we’re using energy-saving technology.”

In total, 50 experts have been employed at the facility, but around 100 additional jobs will be created in the region.
